JOB SUMMARY
My client seeks to hire a human resources officer to support HR operations for their clearing & forwarding business within the oil & gas sector. This is a role for someone who understands the structured process of performance management and the regulatory/compliance demands of oil & gas operations. The ideal candidate will deliver core HR services (onboarding, performance management, HRIS administration, employee relations, compliance and basic payroll/benefits support) while working closely with operations, site teams and external clearing agents to ensure the business has the right talent and HR controls to meet demanding shipping and project schedules.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Performance management & development:
- Administer the performance management cycle: goal setting, appraisals, probation reviews and performance improvement plans.
- Support training needs analysis and coordinate in-house or vendor training (including HSSE and role-specific training for site/port staff).
Talent acquisition & onboarding:
- Coordinate background checks and verifications of new entrants.
- Prepare employment contracts, conduct inductions and onboarding, and ensure that documentation (including work permits, CBN/Customs forms or industry-specific credentials) is complete for operations staff.
HRIS, records & reporting:
- Maintain the Human Resources Information System and accurate employee records, produce monthly HR metrics (headcount, turnover, leave, training) and support payroll input.
- Improve HR data quality and support automation of routine HR processes.
Employee relations & compliance:
- Provide first-line advice to managers and staff on HR policies, contracts, investigate grievances and disciplinary issues and recommend actions.
- Ensure compliance with labour regulations, local content requirements, and internal HR policies across both office and site operations.
Operations support (logistics-specific):
- Work with operations and clearing agents to ensure staff deployed to ports/sites meet HR requirements and documentation; coordinate travel, per diems and site inductions.
- Support rostering, temporary staffing and contractor onboarding relevant to clearing/forwarding activities.
Health, safety & wellbeing:
- Collaborate with HSSE teams to deliver staff safety briefings, ensure medical/fitness documentation where required, and support wellbeing initiatives for staff working at ports and remote sites.
QUALIFICATION
- Bachelor’s degree (BSc/HND) in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology or related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ hands-on HR experience; experience in oil & gas, logistics, clearing & forwarding, or a similar regulated environment strongly preferred.
- Proven experience with performance management frameworks and comfortable administering appraisal processes.
- Practical experience with HRIS, MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and electronic record-keeping.
TECHNICAL SKILLS / COMPETENCIES
- Performance management & people development: Able to run appraisal processes and coach managers.
- HRIS & data literacy: Comfortable with HR systems and producing management reports.
- Stakeholder management: Able to work with operations teams, clearing agents, unions (if applicable), and external vendors.
- Communication & confidentiality: Excellent written/verbal communication and high integrity handling of sensitive employee information.
- Problem-solving & resilience: Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced shipping schedules and to travel occasionally to ports and sites.
- Attention to detail is significant for documentation required by customs, immigration and regulatory checks.
