JOB SUMMARY
The Site Engineer will lead on-site construction, welding and tank-erection activities for EPC projects (pipelines, tank farms, associated mechanical & structural scopes). He is responsible for enforcing safety and quality, supervising contractors and craftspeople, coordinating materials and equipment, and reporting project progress to the Project Manager.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead day-to-day onsite activities: oversee welding, pipe-laying, pipeline tie-ins, flange/pipeline installation and storage tank fabrication/erection.
- Ensure all work meets project specifications, welding codes and industry standards (welding procedure qualification records, PQRs, WPSs, inspection plans).Implement and enforce HSE policies: toolbox talks, permit-to-work, incident reporting and emergency response readiness.
- Manage, schedule and supervise subcontractors, welders, fitters, riggers and general site labour; resolve day-to-day technical and scheduling issues.
- Coordinate material deliveries, lifting/rigging operations and site equipment; maintain daily site diaries and progress reports.
- Perform/coordinate QA/QC activities: welding inspection, NDT coordination (RT, UT, MT, PT), dimensional checks, leak tests and mechanical completion punchlists.
- Liaise with Project Engineering, Procurement, clients and regulators; assist in snagging, commissioning and handover.
TECHNICAL SKILLS / COMPETENCIES
- Pipeline welding skills: Proven competence with pipeline welding techniques and codes, welding procedure usage, and welder qualification awareness.
- Storage tank construction & erection: Knowledge of plate fabrication, shell/roof assembly, welding for storage tanks, seaming, welding details on open/closed and floating roof tanks; familiarity with tank erection sequencing and testing.
- Inspection & code awareness will be a plus: Fair familiarity with relevant standards and inspection regimes (industry certifications such as API-1169 for pipeline inspection, API-653 for tanks where applicable, ASME/AWS codes).
- Quality control / NDT coordination: Able to read inspection reports, coordinate RT/UT/MT/PT, accept/reject welds per criteria, and follow NCR/repair procedures.
- Construction management: Site planning, sequencing, resource allocation, progress tracking, and basic cost/schedule control.
- Health, safety & environment (HSE): Implementation of PTW, confined space, hot work, lifting/rigging safety, environmental controls and incident investigation.
SOFT SKILLS
- Clear communicator, leadership and team management, problem solving, decisive under pressure, able to keep accurate site records and produce concise reports.
- Mobility & stamina: Willingness to travel by sea/road/air; able to work in remote field conditions and flexible hours (shift/overtime when required).
CERTIFICATIONS
Optional, however, the possession of one or more of these certificates will be an advantage:
- Welding certifications or records (AWS, EN, or employer-specific welder qualification records).
- API-1169 (Pipeline Construction Inspector) or similar inspection/QA certifications.
- API-653 (Tank Inspection) or training in storage tank construction/inspection.
- NDT certification or experience coordinating NDT vendors (RT/UT/MT/PT).
- HSE certifications (NEBOSH, OSHA, or local equivalents) — highly desirable.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION
- OND (or equivalent vocational/technical diploma) minimum.
LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 2 years working as a Site Manager (or similar supervisory on-site role)
- Plus, a minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in pipeline welding and storage tank construction.
- Candidates must demonstrate documented welding work history and experience in site supervisory.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Field-based role in Iwofe with frequent travel to other sites (sea/road/air).
- Expect outdoor work, heavy lifting supervision, exposure to weather, and use of PPE at all times.
